There is a reason why people love walking on the beach or hiking in the woods. We tap into a deeper sense of awareness in nature. It is an opportunity to get away from things that distract us from really seeing. When I am in nature, I see beauty in the simplicity of textures, shapes, and colors.
For inspiration, I hike, kayak, and bike along the coast and in the mountains with my pinhole camera and sketchbook. Back in the studio, my paintings and illustrations typically begin with surfaces or backgrounds that depict maps, topography, or terrain. My goal as an artist is to deepen people’s connection to nature and inspire them to unplug and get outside.
